Bungee skirts are the most common and user-friendly of the kayak skirts on the market. They are made using bungee cords made of latex fiber, which stretch (even in freezing weather) and create a tight, dry seal around cockpits of a variety of shapes and sizes.

However, because the skirt is more flexible, bungee skirts can come loose or “pop” off the cockpit rim more easily. For most paddlers, this is not a problem, but for those paddling in very rough water (Class V), rappelling large rapids, or using boats with poorly designed cockpit rims, a bungee skirt may not be the best choice.
